Punch List Module

The punch list starts when the project execution starts. Depending on the firm, this means managing deficiencies, field observations for non-conforming work during the course of construction, critical path tasks, helping clients walk through at the finishing phase (all those painters tape pieces), or the sofa that was just unboxed with a damaged leg.

What’s a punch list? Before computers & smartphones, critical path to-do items were written in the job book (usually the front page before the comm log) and the tradesperson would hole punch the item when it was done.

Connecting this to the Work in Progress or a Change Order would be an excellent opportunity to reduce workflow friction points as we all get fatigued while wrapping up projects with many loose ends.

A schedule with what to include:

  • Item name

  • Location

  • Image

  • Description of the problem

  • Responsible party

  • Reference documents

  • Due date

  • Resolved date

  • Notes

This would need an option to share with the Client or export as a PDF to share with the prime contractors and in the field.

A contractor once said to me “the hardest part of every job is finishing it.” Turns out they never used a punch list before.
